“Agay is a paradise where even the dust is fragrant.”

Agay, situated in one of the most beautiful bays along the coast, between Cap Dramont and Pointe de la Baumette, is the natural gateway to the Esterel Massif. It offers three sandy beaches and a landscaped terrace area with access to the sea via the rocks. Well sheltered from the elements, it has long been popular with sailors (Agay is said to mean “favourable” in Greek).

Following the arrival of the railway in 1860, many artists began visiting Agay. The painter Louis Valtat, composer Vincent d’Indy, writers Guy de Maupassant and Maurice Donnay all stayed here, as did Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Be sure to visit the fountain dedicated to The Little Prince, erected in his honour. Albert Cohen also set part of his novel Belle du Seigneur in Agay.

Sheltered between Cap Dramont and Pointe de la Baumette, the Bay of Agay is a natural gateway to the Esterel Massif.

Its unique geographical features make it particularly popular with sailors, as the name Agay is said to mean “favourable” in Greek. Visitors can enjoy its three sandy beaches, as well as the summit of Rastel, with its striking red rocks overlooking the bay and offering breathtaking panoramic views.

Agay also has a small harbour with 166 berths, some of which may be available to visiting boats, as well as a designated anchorage area.

SAINT-RAPHAËL

TOWN CENTRE AND OLD TOWN

The narrow, shaded streets of the Old Town are a reminder of the former village quarter, where local farmers once lived.

Every day, this neighbourhood hosts a flower and vegetable market, offering a selection of fresh, typically Provençal produce.

A little further on stands the Romanesque church, a listed historic monument originally built in the 12th century and enlarged in the 18th century. Its former presbytery now houses the Saint-Raphaël Archaeological Museum. The 22-metre-high watchtower, dating back to around the 14th century, offers splendid panoramic views.

The “Marine Quarter”, once frequented by local fishermen, gradually developed into a seaside resort. A casino and numerous villas were built here, creating an attractive and lively town centre.
