“Agay is a paradise where even the dust is fragrant.” –

Agay, located in one of the most beautiful bays on the coast between Cap Dramont and Pointe de la Baumette, is the natural gateway to the Estérel. It offers three fine sandy beaches and a terraced area with access to the sea over the rocks. Very sheltered, it was prized by sailors (Agay means “favourable” in Greek).
With the arrival of the railway in 1860, many artists stopped off in Agay: the painter Louis Valtat and the composer Vincent d’Indy stayed here, as did the writers Guy de Maupassant, Maurice Donnay and Saint-Exupéry (don’t miss the Fountain for the Little Prince, erected in his honour). Albert Cohen set part of the action of Belle du Seigneur here.
Well sheltered between Cap Dramont and Pointe de la Baumette, the bay of Agay is a natural gateway to the Estérel massif.
Its layout also makes it very popular with sailors (Agay means “favourable” in Greek). You will enjoy its three fine sandy beaches, the summit of the Rastel and its red rocks, overlooking the bay and offering a breathtaking panorama.
Agay also has a small marina of 166 berths, some of which are available for visitors, as well as an organised anchorage.

SAINT-RAPHAËL
TOWN CENTRE AND OLD TOWN
Of the former “village quarter” where the farmers of Saint-Raphaël lived, the narrow, shaded lanes that make up the old town remain today.
Every day, this quarter hosts a flower and vegetable market where you will find only typically Provençal produce.
A little further on stands the Romanesque church, a listed historic monument, built in the 12th century and enlarged in the 18th. Its presbytery now houses the Archaeological Museum of Saint-Raphaël. Its 22 m watchtower, dating from around the 14th century, offers a splendid panorama.
The “Quartier de la Marine”, once frequented by the town’s fishermen, gradually turned into a seaside resort. A casino and numerous villas were built there to create a truly attractive town centre.

Points of interest

Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Victoire: built by Pierre Aublé between 1882 and 1889, representative of the Romanesque-Byzantine style highly fashionable in the Belle Époque.
Museum of Prehistory and Underwater Archaeology: it holds collections from the local heritage, prehistory and Roman antiquity, drawn from underwater excavations.
Louis de Funès Museum: more than 350 documents are on display, including personal, filming and film photographs, drawings by Louis de Funès, letters such as those from Jean Anouilh, and film extracts, some of them unknown. Digital tour of the museum available.
Promenade des Bains: built between 1880 and 1882 under the name “Terrasse des Bains”. It can be considered to mark the beginning of the tourist era in Saint-Raphaël.
Bonaparte Garden: a commanding position over the bay and the old harbour, with 20,000 m² of gardens. Its central part is laid out as a public square with children’s play areas.
